Just because National Nutrition Month is over doesn’t mean you have to stop celebrating. March 2023 marked the 50th anniversary of March being National Nutrition Month with this year’s theme being “Fuel for the Future”. What are some ways you can continue this theme, month to month, or throughout your daily routines? There are several ways to fuel your body properly while taking small steps towards sustainability for all.
One thing I do is search for small ranchers whose practices take consumer, animal, and environmental health into consideration.
In my area, Corner Post Meats practices sustainable ranching.
Corner Post is not paying me to advertise. In fact, they have taken a pause to figure out how to continue to provide their service as a small, conscientious rancher in the shadows of industrial ranching giants.
They love their land. This ranch is Audubon certified. This means they hold an environmentally-friendly ranching processes . “What’s good for the bird is good for the herd”, ensuring that the ecosystem is intact and thriving.
They love their animals. You can see with your own eyes how well their livestock live. The drive up to the ranch is surrounded by large pastures with healthy cows speckled here and there along the landscape.
Because the animals aren’t living on top of each other in over populated pins, Corner Post doesn’t need to inject their livestock with antibiotics.
They love their customers. Corner Post takes the time to ensure sanitary conditions for its animals and for careful upbringing of the animals. They avoid the use of hormones. Corner Post raises the animals naturally so that the consumer has safe, nutritious meat.
If meat is part of your diet, purchasing from sustainable ranchers is one way you can commit to your health and commit to fueling the future. It’s a win-win!
Sending well wishes to Corner Post as they navigate what’s best for their family and business.
