The 4th of July, in the United States, is a time of celebration. Many observe this holiday by gathering with friends and consuming food while watching fireworks.
How did you fair the holidays in regards to consumption? With special events, it is important to identify what items actually fuel your body versus what you are enjoying as a treat.
The cookout I attended had the whole gamut of delicious treats. I fueled my body with watermelon salad, hummus, and fresh fruit & veggies. Then I enjoyed a few treats.
I indulged a little in the guilty pleasures because I wasn’t going to rely on the nutritional value of these treats, simply enjoy their taste.
One of the treats was a blueberry pie that a woman biked 40 miles to purchase. This pie was strapped to her handlebars for 20 miles…how could I not have a slice! Side note: it was totally worth it 😉
