One of the trendy health words that has been buzzing around in 2023 has been “Exercise Snacks”. What does that mean?
It’s similar to how we snack with food: shorter sessions of exercise throughout the day instead of one concentrated session of movement.
Honestly, I have been doing this my whole life as I have always struggled with staying focused. Taking exercise snacks is a way combat distractions. Who knew I was trendy? 😉
But what do exercise snacks look like?
Basically, it is movement that increases your heart rate and provides a variety of ROM (range of motion) for your body in under 15 minutes.
Putting this in perspective of the typical work day, here are some things you can do:
-Wake up to15 minutes of yoga or three laps around the block.
-Take the first 15 minutes of your lunch break to do some calisthenics.
-Do some squats and lunges at the copier machine while waiting for a print job.
-Walk with a neighbor after work to catch up on neighborhood gossip.
-Do arm circles or lift some light free weights while watching TV.
The important thing is to move. The second important thing is to move enough to increase your heart rate.
So don’t worry if you missed a class at the gym. Simply take to the stairs, do some burpees, or knock out some crunches between tasks. You will likely notice an increase in energy, improvement in mood, and you will feel better about getting some exercise.
