In the last post, we talked about the woes of aging. Wear and tear is inevitable, but we have more control than we think.
Instead of claiming defeat or blaming poor genetics, there are a few ways to be proactive:
- Consume the Right Type of Fuel- Eating a variety of nutrient-dense calories is a great way to support overall health.
- Use It or Lose It- Keep moving, incorporating all the ranges of gross-motor function, daily.
- Attitude of Gratitude- Attitude is everything; pick a good one!
The last time I was in Boulder, my friend and I found humor in this “Wrinkled for a Reason” sign. This brief chuckle during our outing offered me a moment to acknowledge the gratitude I have for my health:
I am grateful for my hair even though it has more gray than it did yesterday.
I am grateful for my body even though it doesn’t quite move or cooperate the same way.
I am grateful for my scars and all my wrinkles for they show I have lived life fully.
This isn’t to say you can’t have worries or insecurities. It is important to acknowledge the fear AND consciously don’t let it influence your decisions.
I am choosing to own the aging process and have fun while doing so. If you would like an accountability buddy to help you with your health as you age, send me a private message 🙂 http://www.shellyabriss.com
